Roy Bolton

Photography
Roy is a Mandurah-based photographer whose work is shaped by a lifelong fascination with the natural environment. His photographic journey began at the age of ten, when his mother gave him a Box Brownie camera, sparking a curiosity about light, texture, and landscape that has remained with him ever since.

His professional career as a Chartered Loss Adjuster took him across Western Australia to remote towns, coastal communities, and bushland areas—often in challenging circumstances. Photographing these environments taught Roy to look closely, observe quietly, and find moments of beauty within scenes shaped by change. These experiences deepened his connection to the outdoors and continue to influence his approach to photography.

Today, Roy focuses on the subtle details and rhythms of nature: the intricate patterns of eucalyptus bark, the quiet glow of coastal light, and landscapes shaped by weather, time, and the changing seasons. He hand-prints all of his images on a large-format Epson printer, carrying forward the craft and control he first learned in the darkroom many years ago.

Although his travels have taken him from Antarctica to the Arctic, Roy’s work remains firmly grounded in the landscapes of Western Australia. He warmly invites visitors to his studio to share in these images and the stories behind them.
