Lucy Gray

Painting | Drawing
Lucy is a full-time professional artist and educator, working with both young and older learners. As much as people grow and change, her arts practice is constantly evolving. For years, she has painted ocean scenes in acrylics and traditional botanical watercolours. During her 2024 art residency, Lucy began to push these boundaries, exploring more raw, gestural, large-scale paintings of banksias. This experimentation also led her to create smaller works celebrating the intricate beauty of the banksia.

Her body of work explores the banksia’s life cycle and concepts of loss and renewal. In September 2026, she will present her first solo exhibition, SEROTINY: Parables of the Banksia, at Contemporary Art Spaces Mandurah. For Lucy, drawing and painting botanicals is a therapeutic process, allowing her to engage with their complexities, celebrate their form and colour, and at times let go, allowing the paint to drip beyond her control. She hopes that visitors to her studio will catch a glimpse of her passion for banksias and the natural world.
