In 2025, Jo’s work has been inspired by regional Western Australia and objects found within the landscape. She works across monoprint, screenprinting, and oil painting, most recently incorporating a tool she has only just been introduced to—the palette knife.
Her screenprints from this year are multicoloured works created through carefully separated layers of colour. Each colour requires a separate screen, with stencils embedded using photographic emulsion. This process has enabled Jo to incorporate and edit her own original photographs, as well as photographs of some of her oil paintings, to create new editioned, hand-pulled screenprints. She has also produced works using solvent transfer, trace monoprint, and the direct method of screenprinting with drawing fluid and screen filler, techniques she particularly enjoys.
Jo’s journey with oil painting began relatively recently. She continues to study diligently, working to strengthen her drawing abilities while developing her painting knowledge and technical skill. At the 2025 Plein Air Down Under Festival, she attended a workshop with award-winning visiting artist Michelle Usibelli (USA), where participants were encouraged to use the palette knife outdoors. This experience proved transformative for Jo—the physicality of applying thick paint with the knife felt akin to screenprinting, allowing her to work with freedom and confidence as the pressure of her still-developing brush skills dissolved.
