Deborah’s art practice is intuitively driven, reflecting an exuberant, energetic personality, deep spiritual awareness, and a joyful sense of expectancy. She draws immense inspiration from the marvellous designs found in nature.
Her approach to painting is grounded in an emotional response to the subject, theme, and environment she encounters. Deborah seeks to capture the immediacy of emotion experienced in the moment, working intuitively with the available substrates and materials. Through bold, expressive gestures, dynamic colour, and instinctive mark making, she conveys her visceral reactions to each experience.
As an abstract artist, Deborah’s passion for surface structure and tension compels her to continually explore new techniques and methods to enhance the quality of her work. Tools such as scrapers, wire wool, sandpaper, collage, and sharp implements play an integral role in the creation of her paintings. The large-scale nature of many of her works reflects both her joy in working with paint and her commitment to fully embracing life’s experiences.
Deeply committed to her artistic practice, Deborah actively participates in the Mandurah Plein Air Art Group and Portrait Group on a weekly basis. She also facilitates bi-monthly workshops, where she teaches and shares her knowledge and ongoing learning with participants.
In 2009, Deborah completed a major commission comprising 116 original artworks for The Sebel Hotel in Mandurah. Her recent major solo exhibitions include QUIDDITY at Lost Eden Creative Space, Dwellingup (2024), HIGH RESOLUTION at Gallows Gallery, Mosman Park (2023), INNOVATION at Mandurah Alcoa Art Gallery (2021), and AWAKENING at Lost Eden Creative Space, Dwellingup (2020). These exhibitions have propelled her artistic practice in exciting new directions.
